How to remove temporary dreadlock extensions?
🌿Here's a simple guide to removing them gently!
Cut the thread — Use a seam ripper or a small pair of scissors to gently cut the elastics holding the dreads together.
Undo the braids slowly — Remove the dread extensions one by one, patiently, to avoid tangling your hair.
Detangle your natural hair
Option 1: Dry – Comb your dry hair, strand by strand, working from the ends to the roots.
Option 2: On wet hair – If you prefer, wet your hair, shampoo, then rinse well. Then apply conditioner and gently brush from the ends upwards, strand by strand.
⚠️ Caution: Hair is more fragile when wet, so be gentle!
Take your time — Removing dreads requires patience. Set aside a few hours, put on some music or a TV show, and relax during the process.
đź’ˇ Tip: Temporary dreadlock extensions are generally worn for a maximum of 6 to 8 weeks.
🌿 And what about “real” dreadlocks?
Temporary dreadlock extensions are simply braided into your hair and can be easily removed, even by the wearer.
But what about “real” dreadlocks, made from your own hair?
👉 Yes, they can also be undone without scissors! It is perfectly possible to gently brush them back to your natural hair.
However, it is strongly recommended to entrust this step to an experienced professional, in order to preserve the health and length of your hair as much as possible.
✨ Little natural reminder: We lose on average about 100 hairs per day, and these hairs get stuck in the braided or dreaded part. When detangling, it is therefore normal to see a lot of hair fall out - this is not damaged hair, but simply the natural fall accumulated during the wearing period.
